When extraction is necessary
We always look for a way to save a tooth first—a filling, crown, or root canal, whenever that’s a viable option. Extraction becomes necessary when a tooth is too damaged or infected to restore, severely decayed, or in the way of a planned alignment treatment or a denture.
Wisdom teeth removal
We evaluate wisdom teeth as part of your routine exams, often with the help of our in-office CBCT imaging to see root position and proximity to nerves clearly. Many straightforward wisdom tooth extractions are completed right here at Cherish Dental. For impacted teeth or more complex positioning, we refer to a trusted oral surgeon and stay involved in your care throughout.
Recovery & aftercare
Simple extractions typically heal within a few days; surgical or wisdom tooth extractions may take a week or more. We give you clear written aftercare instructions—including what to eat, how to manage swelling, and warning signs to call us about—before you leave.
Replacing an extracted tooth
If the extracted tooth was visible or load-bearing, we’ll talk through replacement options at the same visit—a dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture—so you’re not left deciding under pressure later.

What’s recovery like after an extraction?
Simple extractions usually heal within a few days with mild soreness managed by over-the-counter pain relief. Surgical extractions and wisdom teeth may take a week or more. We provide written aftercare instructions and are available if you have questions during recovery.
When do wisdom teeth need to come out?
Not every wisdom tooth needs removal—some erupt normally and cause no issues. We recommend extraction when they’re impacted, causing crowding or pain, or at higher risk of infection or decay due to their position. We evaluate this at your routine exams, often using CBCT imaging for a clear view.
